The Peugeot 306 2.0 HDI Meridian Estate. I`ve owned mine for the last last four and a half years, bought with 51k miles on the clock and with full service history. Well equipped with all round disc brakes — vented on front with ABS, PAS, Air/Con, auto-wipers, alloys, front airbags, 1/2 leather upholstery, remote central locking, electric front windows, electric mirrors, 4 headrests, front fogs, roof rails, colour coded metallic paint. The car has now done 108k miles. So what has gone wrong?- * Remote Central Locking no longer works — although central locking works fine of both front doors — a Peugeot dealer costs approx. 70 per hour to investigate plus the cost of parts mean it just isn`t worth getting fixed. * Auxiliary belt damper pulley failed — this item is of poor design and is a common failure, the replacement part alone cost 140. * Air Conditioning no longer works — suspect either pump was damaged when damper pulley failed or gas was lost when said pulley was changed along with cambelt. * Rear window winder cable snapped — cost of new is 48 without fitting. My window is now currently held shut with a bolt. * Low pressure fuel pump failed — another 200+ * Whilst exhaust was in otherwise good condition the pipe broke away from the catalytic converter section along weld (premature failure) — bit the bullet and fitted complete exhaust as back box was badly corroded on bracket. Later the pipe broke away from the back box on the new exhaust. Believe these failures to be due to poor exhaust supporting method. That said the car has otherwise been reliable. Cost per mile including repairs, consumables, running costs and depreciation have been lower than any other car I have owned. The car drives well with good handling, is relatively quick (for a diesel of it`s age). Not ideal for those who want to tow as rear suspension is quite soft. Would otherwise recommend to anyone looking to buy a second-hand diesel estate.
